Initial thoughts and ideas on editing

Today I have started to edit my music video. The software we are using is Adobe Premier Elements; I have never used this software before so I firstly wanted to get to grips with the basics. I started playing around with the different transitions you could use and also dragging in and fading different clips together.

As I decided to film various different shots and then put them together I also had to learn how to cut and add in the shots, at first this was a rather daunting process, however I managed to work it put pretty easily after a few goes.

In the print screen below you can see an image of me inserting a new project, it is really good that Premier Elements stores all the videos you have uploaded in an icon called 'Project Assets' this means that if you delete a clip from your editing timeline you don't need to the re upload the video, you can simply click on project assets and it will bring up all the videos you have uploaded. At first I was unsure what the need for project assets was because I had uploaded all the clips I wanted and didn't need them again, however as the editing process progressed I later realised this was a very easy way to drag a clip in if i had deleted it on the time line.

In the print screen below you can see me selecting a transition to insert into my music video to fill in a jump cut to the next scene. My knowledge of transitions have developed over time because I am now aware of what transitions fit my music video, so this narrows down the illuminating process of which one to insert. At the beginning stage of editing my music video I would spend a lot of time going through all the various transitions on offer and seeing whether they fit in with the theme of my music video.

  1. Good use of screen grabs to illustrate. Can you give more detail on what you have learned?
